Didn’t mean to offend you Lottie, I am far from perfect myself.
I just don’t buy it though.
I work similar hours each week and also feel the urge to while away my time in the comfort of my fav’ arm chair when I’m off but more often than not fight the urge and am always glad I have once I’m out. It’s hard I know.
Drag yourself out and you’ll find that there are plenty of others who do to.
If we all just spent time promoting our own things and doing nothing else (whatever the reason)there would be no-one around to enjoy any of it, we’d all be to busy. We’d all be wasting our time.
Sometimes you just have to make the time.
I do not believe live music should be elitist.
I just get frustrated at all the cheap imitations which breed this apathy by giving the impression that every one could do better because all they see is shite. There is stuff worth getting off of your arse for if you have the drive and enthusiasm.

Good heat. We’ve gone beyond Kilroy and reached
Trisha-like heights.
I think we are all talking about something we are
passionate about and that in itself is great. There will
always be good stuff that no-one gets to hear and there
will always be shite that the kids rush out to buy, but I
reckon anything that reaches out to a new audience is
worth supporting.
For what it’s worth, I grew up in a city of roughly one
million people and you had to search for any decent
live music. It was all underground. The bands I was in
as a teenager had to create a scene because there was
nowhere to play (unless you were prepared to play Still
Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For to open and close
your set). We’re very lucky in London to have a
selection of good venues with promoters who’ll take a
risk on new music, but in a way it means it is very easy
ot settle into a rhythm of playing the same places to –
roughly – the same people. So if anyone can think of
good ways to get live music into new spaces and raise
the profile of good, bad and indifferent bands I think it is
brilliant. As someone (not terribly kindly) pointed out
earlier, the good bands will prosper and the bad ones
will wither away (apart from the Stereophonics for some
reason). But we need to give ourselves a chance.

And the joy of London is that there is more than one sub-scene going on here. Organ moans that The London Scene is as fragmented as it is but that’s its strength.
While we’re naming names, with regards to The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Artrocker (The Trendy Alternative) are definitely guilty for their early championing of their cause.

The Manner are playing at the Half Moon in Putney on
Wednesday 19 May and the fantastic Bull & Gate on
Saturday 12 June.
