October preview.

With the ceiling still dripping sweat from the return of The Cooper Temple Clause, October arrives brimming with burgeoning new talent. As ever bands from across the globe, fri 4th Moscow’s Blast join XFM fav’s Black Cube. Sat 5th brings Louly Louly, a Japanese punk trio with decidedly Ramones leanings. Young adrenaline junkies a plenty, witness spiky top ska punk of Hedroom, Wed 9th. The audacious rocking of Houston 500 meets the Dawn Parade‘s rabble rousing stomp Sat 26th.

Cars As Weapons, Fri 9th, Have emerged as one of the best ’emo’ type rock acts, if you’re down with The Hundred Reasons rivals schools type stuff hoist up those giant trooz and get out of the house. If it’s just sheer weight of riffage your after try Moolie, Sun 16th or Blunt Sun 27th.

Baffled by the youth of today? Yearn for a time when punk was more twisted and demented? Back from international gurning duties, Brain Of Morbius join us once again on Fri 11th with frightening fairground noises and sideshow brawling. Recent XFM sessionists Dog support, with their spiky Slits/Th’ Faith Healers sprightly punk stomp rock. Does the sun ever shine in South London? Well apparently the surfs up and riding in on it, Fri 25th. Naked Ruby and the Deptford Beach Babes turning up the reverb and shaking their collective coconuts. 

Possibly the most promising bill of the month, Thu 10th, regular ‘Gate’ fav’s Venis, now The Fits, and the return of former Bellatrix front lady Eliza Newman. The Fits, fronted by the irrepressible Mo play passionate pop with the howl of PJ Harvey. Eliza has a new Icelandic super group ‘Scandinavia‘ Demos suggest a move to a tougher sound than Bellatrix. Equally compelling The SP’s and Desolation Angels complete proceedings.

Me Against Them, Mon 14th, have been gaining their fair share of interest and radio play with some loud loaded era Velvets rocks. Sophisticate loungers, Graham And The Galligaskans, join bedsit terrorists, Empty Vessels on Thu 17th. Keep an eye out for The Guy Behind The Guy, Mon 17th, He’s promising us a new sensation.

With luck we should see Clan Zu with us on Wed 30th, much in the vein of fellow Australians, Cave collaborators, The Dirty Three. Rounding things off with Halloween, Thu 31, chunky melodic rock from tup north. Fin‘s driving anthems feature. Smash those pumpkins!
