APRIL APPETISERS

The Sofa Club return on Wednesday 7th with their laid back, mesmeric acoustics and light pop melodies. Expect some stirring and polished daytime radio friendly sounding pop mom- ents from the nights earlier offerings of Beretta and Jackoby Night.

Friday 9th Spot of Fretwork homework been going on with Manola, cant help but draw comparisons with Muse, At The Drive In, Radiohead etc. Balaclava also feature on this night, Mazzy Star on 45 hitting all the right distortion pedals.

Thursday 15th reacquaints us with The Vertical Smile) Its at least four years since they last graced these parts with their Galaxy 500, Dinosaur Jr, Beech Boys (?!) influenced trance rock. They make a very welcome return. B&G debutants The Educations Cd was full of promise, Jack Officers, Beck, Chemical Brothers moments, well worth a chance.

Friday 16th sees The Mastermindz head the show. This Czech, Irish collaboration now based in London fall somewhere between The Cure and very early Duran Duran at present.

Superfluids Stereolab like workings make an appearance on Thursday 22nd, always wel- come. Delicate Kraut Rock like moments, ex Slot Jockey input.

 Friday 23rd throws up an eclectic mix of sound. It opens up with the scratchy punk sounds of ‘New’ New Cross Scenesters The Swear before Crysler add a touch of glam, dark mood pop, Garbage, Portishead, to be followed by The Screeches upbeat female fronted garage punk, Stooges, Elastica. Collapse round the evening off with their spiky, shouty, post punk crunch, Bogshed, Gang Of Four meets God and Spike Milligan’s Tape Recorder.

Jade (not Goody!)’s Deftones inspired sound tops Sunday 25th. Another Sunday night of monster rock beckons like a barrel of Bishops Finger in a monastery, ie you wouldn’t wanna be without it!
